September (Holy Cross) Ember Days


The September ("Holy Cross") Ember days have a penitential character and Ember Friday, September 22nd, and ought to be marked by intentional prayers for vocations. On the recommendation of the Governing Council, the Bishop has decreed that Ember Friday in September is to be kept as an obligatory day of abstinence.

While Ember Wednesday, September 21st is the Feast of St. Matthew, the Apostle and Evangelist, and Ember Saturday, September 23th, is the Solemnity of Title of Our Lady of Walsingham.
