What does it mean to be registered in the parish?

Very simply, registration is part of becoming an official member of a parish community. In normal Catholic dioceses, this is determined by geographical location, but as part of the non-geographical diocese of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, one may register with Blessed John Henry Newman Catholic Church (Bl. John's) regardless of your home location. Learn more about the Ordinariate and the Anglican Use here.

What is the difference between parish and Ordinariate membership?

Registering for both parish and Ordinariate membership means becoming a canonical member of the Ordinariate diocese as well as a part of your particular parish community. Because the Anglican Use (which is the liturgical rite of the Ordinariate) is a part of the Latin Rite, the process is not as complicated as it would be to transfer between rites, such as between Latin and an Eastern rite. Parish membership without Ordinariate membership means that while you are a part of the parish, you remain a member of the rite to which you belong canonically and the territorial diocese in which you reside. This mostly concerns Catholics who have already received all of their sacraments of initiation, as those who are converting to Catholicism or completing their sacraments through the Ordinariate may automatically become canonical members. Whatever choice you make does not affect what that means for you personally as a member of the parish.

What is expected of me as a registered member of the parish?

Registered members of Bl. John’s are expected to be active, tithing members of the parish community. We as a parish cannot thrive without our members being actively involved in parish life—attending Mass with us and becoming part of the parish family—and helping support our parish financially through tithing. This means more than simply putting money into the collection plate on occasion, but a stated pledge to give what one is able according to one’s financial situation.

Why are non-members required to pay an entry fee for Bl. John’s events?

Events sponsored by Bl. John’s are supported by the parish financially. Those who are givers of record are already helping to support these ministries through tithing; non-members are asked to contribute on a per-event basis in order to help support these ministries.
